Privacy at a Glance

• We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
• Scanner photos are sent off your device to identify collectibles. Operational processing is required to perform a scan.
• Keeping scanner photos to train, test, or improve recognition is a separate, optional choice. Declining does not disable scanning or Pro access.
• You can change the scanner-photo choice in Settings, turn off notifications, disconnect eBay, export supported collection data, and delete your account in the app.
• We use service providers for cloud hosting, authentication, analytics, recognition, notifications, subscriptions, and connected marketplace features.

Information We Collect

Scanner Photos, AI Processing & Your Choice

The scanner cannot identify an item without sending the submitted photo, or item crops derived from it, to Value8's recognition systems. Depending on the item type and system availability, those systems may use Value8 models and service providers such as AWS, Google's Gemini API, OpenAI, Anthropic, or Modal. These providers process the image to perform the scan; processing the scan is separate from retaining a contribution to improve future models.

How We Use Information

• Authenticate users, maintain accounts, and sync data across devices.
• Provide portfolio, inventory, Explorer, scanner, marketplace, import/export, watchlist, lot-calculator, storefront, community, and eBay features.
• Calculate values, price history, deal tiers, cost basis, gains and losses, and other collection insights.
• Process scanner photos and, only when you opt in, use contributed photos to train, test, and improve recognition.
• Process subscriptions, entitlements, trials, purchases, and feature or usage limits.
• Deliver notifications you enable, including deal, listing, seller, export, account, and service alerts.
• Attribute eligible app installs, subscriptions, creator referrals, and marketplace-link activity; administer creator or referral programs; and measure their performance.
• Measure product usage, troubleshoot errors, improve performance, develop features, and support users.
• Protect Value8, users, and third parties; investigate fraud, abuse, security events, and Terms violations; and comply with law.

When We Disclose Information

• Service providers: vendors that host data, authenticate users, analyze app usage, process scanner images, deliver notifications, process subscriptions, or provide support. They receive only the information needed for their role.
• At your direction: eBay and other services you connect, exports you create, or public content you choose to post.
• Public surfaces: public username, profile, storefront, follower relationships, reviews, and connected listings are visible as described when you enable or use those features. Portfolio cost basis, private collections, and watchlists are not made public through the storefront.
• Legal and safety: when reasonably necessary to comply with law, legal process, or enforceable government requests; protect rights or safety; investigate fraud or abuse; or enforce our agreements.
• Business transfers: as part of a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality and notice where required.

Connected eBay Account

• Connecting eBay is optional and uses eBay's OAuth flow. Value8 receives access and refresh tokens, not your eBay password.
• We use the connection to create or edit listings you review, retrieve connected-account listings and sales, sync relevant history, provide analytics, and support shipping or order features you initiate.
• Transactions, payments, disputes, buyer data, and shipping remain subject to eBay's terms and privacy practices.
• You can disconnect eBay in the app. We revoke or invalidate the connection and stop future syncing. Information already copied into your portfolio or required for security, accounting, dispute, or legal records may remain until deleted under the applicable retention rule.

Notifications

Notifications require your device permission. If enabled, we store a push token and notification preferences to deliver deal alerts, watchlist matches, seller or listing activity, exports, and account or service messages. You can change topic preferences in Value8 and revoke system permission in iOS Settings.

Service Providers & Data Sources

Providers used can change as the service evolves. Current categories include:

• Amazon Web Services: hosting, databases, object storage, content delivery, serverless computing, secrets management, logging, and backups.
• Google Firebase: authentication and app analytics; Google Sign-In where selected; and Google Gemini for certain scanner-recognition tasks.
• Apple: Sign in with Apple, App Store subscriptions and in-app purchases, and Apple Push Notification service.
• OpenAI, Anthropic, and Modal: recognition, verification, model inference, or compute for certain scanner and analysis workflows.
• eBay: OAuth, connected seller features, listings, sales, and marketplace data.
• Attribution and referral providers: creator-link routing, install attribution, and referral-program measurement where a referral link is used.
• BrickLink, TCGplayer, and other catalog or marketplace sources: collectible metadata, images, asking prices, and sold-price inputs where available.

Third parties process information under their own terms and privacy policies as well as the agreements and settings applicable to our use of their services. We require service providers to protect information and use it only to provide services to Value8, as required by applicable law and our agreements.

Retention & Deletion

• Account and collection data: kept while your account is active and then deleted or de-identified when the account is deleted, unless a longer period is needed for legal, security, fraud-prevention, transaction, or dispute purposes.
• Operational scanner images: processed for the scan and kept only as long as reasonably needed to complete and secure the request or diagnose failures. Images retained under the optional contribution program may be kept for up to 12 months.
• eBay connection data: active tokens are retained while connected. Disconnecting stops future access; cached or historical records follow the rules above.
• Logs, analytics, and diagnostics: retained for a limited period appropriate to security, reliability, and product analysis, then deleted or aggregated.
• Backups: deleted data may remain in encrypted backups until the backup is overwritten under our normal cycle. It is isolated from ordinary use and restored only for disaster recovery.
• De-identified data: may be retained longer when it cannot reasonably be linked back to you. We do not attempt to re-identify it.

Your Choices & Rights

• Scanner-photo contribution: change it in Settings → Improve the scanner.
• Camera, photos, and notifications: change permissions in iOS Settings.
• eBay: disconnect your account in Value8.
• Public content: edit or remove supported profile, storefront, follow, review, and listing content through the app.
• Access, correction, portability, or deletion: use available in-app tools or contact us. Inventory export is available where supported.
• Account deletion: use Settings → Delete Account. Deleting the app alone does not delete your account. Cancel an Apple subscription separately in Apple's subscription settings.

To exercise a privacy right, email support@tryvalue8.app. We may verify your identity and authority before acting. We will respond within the period required by applicable law and will not discriminate against you for exercising a right.

California Privacy Notice

California residents may have rights to know or access, correct, delete, and obtain information about categories of personal information collected, used, and disclosed; to opt out of sale or sharing; to limit certain uses of sensitive personal information; and to receive equal service. In the preceding 12 months, Value8 may have collected the categories described in this policy: identifiers; customer records; commercial and transaction information; internet or electronic activity; geolocation at the coarse network level; audio/visual information such as submitted photos; inferences such as value and deal insights; and account credentials or financial information limited to connected-service tokens and purchase records.

We collect these categories from you, your device, connected services, and public or licensed catalog and marketplace sources. We use and disclose them for the business purposes described above. We do not sell or share them for cross-context behavioral advertising. Because we do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics beyond permitted service purposes, we do not offer a separate limitation mechanism for that use.

EEA, UK & Switzerland

Where applicable, our legal bases are: performance of our contract to provide requested features; consent for optional scanner-photo contribution and device permissions; legitimate interests in security, service improvement, analytics, and support; and compliance with legal obligations. You may have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, and withdrawal of consent, plus the right to complain to a local supervisory authority. Withdrawal does not affect processing already completed lawfully.

Value8 operates from the United States. When required for international transfers, we use legally recognized safeguards appropriate to the provider and transfer, such as contractual protections.

Children

Value8 is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13. Users between 13 and the age of majority should use Value8 only with permission from a parent or legal guardian. Contact support@tryvalue8.app if you believe a child provided information improperly.

Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including encrypted network transport, access controls, managed secrets, and backups. No service can guarantee absolute security. Please use a unique password with your sign-in provider and report suspected unauthorized access promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as Value8 or applicable law changes. We will update the date above and provide additional notice in the app, by email, or through another appropriate channel when a change is material. If a change requires new consent, we will ask before applying the new optional use.
